Team ICS Takes On the Waccasassa River

In the last few years, Mr. Maynard, a man in our church has become director of the annual Wild Hog Canoe Race in Gulf Hammock.  He and his family do a fantastic job planning a fun, community event where all benefits are contributed to the LARC {Levy Association for Retarded Citizens}. With great food, activities for kids, and a canoe race with 123 boats {which beat last year's number!}, it's a full day.  There's so much competition, and yet a spirit of camaraderie that makes it extra fun.
Registration opened at 7:30 AM, though anxious racers began showing up before that...[smile]

Mr. Maynard was just calling everyone for prayer as this picture was taken, hence the hats coming off.  One {of the many [smile]} great things about being in a rural area.

Chillin' by the river...

We girls had a fantastic and definitely entertaining time serving food.  [smile]   Working together for hours was great, but we all wanted to make sure we didn't miss the moment everybody in our families was waiting for...!

For the last two hours our bros, Team ICS, had been working their way down the Waccasassa River through approximately 15 miles of obstacles, over logs, and in the mud. Oh, and successfully scaring off water moccasins and alligators! [smile] With perseverance, strength, and a big dose of competitiveness, they expended all effort possible towards reaching the finish line at record speed. Needless to say, we were all thrilled when the younger siblings started calling, "They're coming! I see Evan and Ivan!  They're going fast!"  In this picture, they were coming towards the first of two logs to go over before the finish line!

"Wow! We did it!"
Clapping for others while waiting to hear their place and receive their trophy...  All those who placed 5th or higher in Evan and Ivan's class got a paddle.
Walking up front as we siblings successfully make their cheer and clap the loudest of all...[smile]
Yep, you're reading Evan's paddle correctly....!
The 1st place winners of the Recreation Class, and 5th place winners over all!  Completing the race in 2 hours, 14 minutes, and 10 seconds!  YAY!

[And, yes, we girls loved serving other racers their food while they commented on the "flying guys in orange", and just laughing to ourselves knowing they were talking about our brothers!]
Part of the sign made to congratulate them...they earned a double portion of  milkshake!

Ivan willingly takes kindly subjects to a selfie with us girls to commemorate the event before the three of us head home that night...[smile]
It was a great day, and in conclusion I can't help but think of the parallel of racing events in life to the real spiritual race all of us as believers are in...
"Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God." {Hebrews 12:1-2}
